This session will explore how Speyer recalibrated its advancement efforts and how other institutions can use Speyer as a case study to shape action-oriented strategies for future fundraising success.

Creating an In House Training and Professional Development Program
In 2018, the major gift team at the U.S. Naval Academy Foundation made a commitment to grow personally and professionally with a self-driven professional development program. Accelerated by the pandemic, three unique and on going programs took shape that address professional skills related to fundraising and personal growth related to areas such as leadership and global affairs. In this session, we will walk you through how we developed all three, including "Chair Flying," which borrows terminology from Navy pilots to describe our weekly role-playing sessions amongst frontline fundraising staff.
Don’t Stop Achievin’: A Goal Planning Journey
If you take a midnight train goin’ anywhere, you’re probably not going to end up where you want to be. Instead, plan your Journey! This session will take you through GW’s five-phase annual goal planning process as a case study. We’ll first cover how we leverage historical data and current plans to set ambitious yet achievable goals at the organizational, unit, and individual levels. Then we’ll dive into our data-based approach for individual gift officer goal planning – laying out a path to success that is ground truthed in real data, analyzing these blueprints to determine if they support the goals sufficiently, and identifying and addressing any gaps therein. Last, we’ll wrap up with a quick look at how our train got derailed by COVID-1.
How Vassar's Development Experience Officer (DXO's) Build 1000s of Personal Relationship
Vassar College recently launched a Donor Experience Program to deliver high-volume, completely personalized outreach to thousands of donors without a 1-on-1 relationship with the university. The goal? Retention and reactivation. During a pandemic that made face-to-face visits impossible, Vassar hired two DXOs that are completely focused on delivering phenomenal donor experiences to high-potential prospects. They’re expanding coverage of the giving pyramid, reaching previously untouched donors, and building donor pipeline, while retaining existing donors. Rutgers Alumni Workplace Engagement - A Team Approach
The Rutgers Alumni Workplace Engagement program is a holistic approach that connects companies that employ large numbers of Rutgers Alumni, with the University. The program is unique in bringing the University to the workplace. Focusing on Four Pillars of Success the program has succeeded by incorporating internal partners and utilizing their expertise to break through those internal silos. In this session, we will discuss the best practices implemented and how this TEAM approach has increased engagement and partnerships within those companies and Rutgers Alumni.
Engagement Without the Ask: An Alumni Engagement & Communications Case Study
With a major campaign on the horizon, Binghamton University was brainstorming opportunities to increase connection and excitement among its alumni, when it discovered a high number of journalists and media professionals among its graduates. In short order, the Binghamton Alumni Media Advisory Group was born, the team that blossomed during the pandemic provided both connections among generations of alumni and insightful support for the University’s media outreach efforts — not to mention some additional national coverage.
