A Small School Elicits Change Heard Around the World - A Guide to Navigate Controversial Change
Dr. Jordon Sharp, Vice President of Marketing and Communication, Utah Tech University
When possible, there is one brand type best left alone, a collegiate brand. Ofttimes, such brands are more revered than any religious, political, or cultural tradition. Consequently, Dixie State University upheld its name rooted in the Confederacy in an effort to preserve heritage despite decades of rigorous debate that included protests, boycotts, blackmail, death threats, political upheaval and even attempted murder. However, despite seemingly immovable obstacles, change is at times necessary for continued success, and the rebrands at Utah Tech University have garnered tens of millions in media coverage worldwide and received some of the state and nation’s most prestigious PR and marketing awards. In this session, Dr. Jordon Sharp who oversaw both the athletic and institutional rebrands for Utah Tech University, will provide a step-by-step process to navigate controversial change for any organization
