LiFE: Learning inspired by FedEx, a Program by the University of Memphis
From the Nominator
In Spring 2018, FedEx Express contacted the University of Memphis to aid in finding a solution to their high employee turn-over rate at their hub locations by overcoming challenges with their existing tuition assistance program. Research shows employees are 94% more likely to stay at a job if they are engaged in an educational benefit program, but their existing benefit was not conducive to this population for many reasons. The annual turnover rate of the 11,000 employees in Memphis was 100%. Many are low-income and/or underrepresented minorities. Many were unable to complete higher education for various reasons, and a majority take part in very manual labor and work odd hours.
