Bio

Karen Ann Engelbourg is vice president for development at Boston University. Karen manages all individual giving for the University's $1.5 billion fundraising campaign.

In this capacity, Karen oversees a 75-person team, providing strategic leadership as the University identifies and engages donors in BU's first-ever comprehensive campaign. She works closely with trustees, Campaign leadership, and principal gift prospects to advance the Campaign's priorities.

Karen manages the University's International Advisory Board, a key constituency of the Campaign, with total gifts exceeding $100 million. Additionally, this year, Karen oversaw the launch of the William Fairfield Warren Society, which recognizes living donors with lifetime contributions to BU of $1 million or more.

Before arriving at BU, Karen served as Assistant Vice President at Brandeis University, Director of Principal Gifts and Donor Relations at Boston's Children's Hospital, and Director of Major Gifts at Harvard Medical School. In 2010, Karen joined BU as the Assistant Dean for Development at the School of Medicine. In 2013, she became Associate Vice President for School Development, and later that year became Senior Associate Vice President for Development. Karen assumed her current role in 2015.

Karen is a graduate of Brandeis University, with a BA in History. She is a regular presenter at both CASE and Women in Development.
