Major Gifts
The Major Gifts online conference will be chaired by Mary Haworth, Director of Philanthropy and Alumni Engagement, University of York, and Gavin Maggs, Director of Development and Alumni Relations, University of Birmingham.
Welcome from the Chairs
It is our enormous pleasure to welcome you to the Major Gifts Workshop.
The one and only rule of the conference is don't be afraid to get stuck in! Over the 48 hours we have together we will share stories, hone our skills and learn from one another.
The guru of relationship fundraising, Ken Burnett named five assumptions that underpin effective fundraising, they are:
1. Donors are usually generous and caring people.
2. They are intelligent and know when people are taking advantage of them.
3. They expect to be treated courteously.
4. They are individuals.
5. They are more likely to respond better when they get from us what they want to receive, rather than what we want them to have.
And we think this applies to good fundraisers too. That is why we have shaped a programme and invited speakers to share their insights from the perspective of many years of working with major donors. You'll meet like-minded people who really care about the causes they champion and the opportunities they provide to help make a difference.
As good fundraisers it would be remiss of us not thank you for being with us. Thank you for sharing your wisdom, experiences (the good and the bad), and for your enthusiasm for being part of this conference.
Enjoy!
Mary and Gavin
