IRA Charitable Rollover Extension Stalls in Senate

Two attempts to proceed to consideration of the House-passed Renewable Energy and Job Creation Act of 2008 (H.R. 6049), legislation that includes a one-year extension of the IRA charitable rollover, failed to get the requisite 60 votes in the Senate.

CASE District News

District II member institutions and professionals may apply for Venture Capital Fund grants anytime on the district Web site. The next round of applications will be reviewed in mid-August.

And mark your calendars for the next District II conference, to be held March 21-24, 2009, in Baltimore, Md.

District III has joined with several longtime educational partners to develop one-day "power" workshops this fall. Inaugural workshops will be held:

Sept. 29-University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. "When Knowledge Is Not Enough: Twelve Practices to Succeed in Higher Education Development," with Doug Alexander, founding partner of Alexander Haas Martin & Partners.

Oct. 20-University of Central Florida, Orlando, Fla. "Your Category of One: What Is It, And Why Does It Matter?" with Laura Crawley, director of program development at Crane MetaMarketing.

The cost for one attendee is $110 or $100 each for two or more from the same institution. The workshops were developed with the help of CASE educational partners Alexander Haas Martin & Partners, and Crane MetaMarketing. More information and online registration will be posted soon on www.casethree.org.

District V... Now is the time to enter programs, printed pieces and other items for gold, silver and bronze awards in 49 categories for The Pride of CASE V. Deadline is July 15. The entry fee has been reduced to $35.

Nominations are also due July 15 for outstanding institutional leaders for the chief executive leadership award. The honor recognizes presidents, chancellors, headmasters or system heads of CASE V institutions. Recipients will be recognized at the 2008 CASE V conference.

District VI invites colleagues within and outside the district to submit a proposal for the 2009 district conference, Jan. 25-27, 2009, at the Westin Crown Center in Kansas City. Travel expenses for speakers from outside the district may be covered if your proposal is accepted.

The conference's three primary tracks are alumni relations, philanthropy, and communications and marketing; areas of special emphasis include diversity and senior advancement professionals. This year's theme, EXHILARATE, embodies our desire to help conference participants recharge and tap into new sources of creativity-personally and professionally. Proposals can be submitted online.
