Advancement in the Middle East: Global and Local Insights

In March 2017, the University of Wollongong in Dubai rang in its 20th anniversary with a campus-wide celebration. Students, staff and friends cheered on competitors in a "Wollongong's Got Talent" competition, danced to tunes from the Abu Dhabi Big Band and sampled traditional Arabic cuisine and Australian barbeque.

Just two decades ago, the university had seven students. Now, it serves more than 3,500 with 25 accredited degree programs.

UOWD's rapid expansion mirrors the growth taking place at many institutions (and their advancement operations) across the Middle East. Of CASE Asia-Pacific's 200 member institutions, 19 are located in the region. The time is ripe for a new community of professional practice in the Middle East, says Tricia King, CASE's vice president for global engagement.

"Over the last decade, we've noticed an ever-growing community of talented advancement professionals in the Middle East who have been attending CASE events all over the world," writes King on LinkedIn.

The inaugural CASE Advancement Conference in the Middle East, held 5-7 February 2018, will offer these practitioners a place to exchange global and local insights on advancement and explore tools to adopt appropriate strategies for their institutions. Held at the University of Wollongong at Dubai, the conference will explore:

• Aligning institutional strategy with fundraising strategy;
• Talent management;
• Best practices in digital marketing;
• Philanthropic trends in the Arab world, and more.

"This is a brilliant opportunity for delegates to build local community and come together to learn, share, network, debate and discuss—as all great CASE communities do," writes King.

Early-bird registration ends 21 December.
