CASE Names New Director of Center for Community College Advancement

CASE has named Marc Westenburg, strategic marketing specialist at Harper College in Palatine, Illinois, as the new director of the Center for Community College Advancement. His appointment is effective Aug. 15.

Westenburg joins CASE after six years in the post at Harper College, where he developed and implemented comprehensive communications and marketing plans, managed multiple budgets, helped establish and manage various social media channels and leveraged emerging technologies.

"Working at a community college revolutionized my perspective on how important their place in society is. They are such vibrant communities with diverse challenges and needs," Westenburg said.

"Through CASE we now have this vast network of support where community colleges can freely share their successes and challenges," he said. "It's something CASE does really well."

In addition to his work at a community college, Westenburg also has held leadership positions in marketing and recruitment at the Istituto Lorenzo de' Medici, in Florence, Italy. Prior to working in higher education, Westenburg was an English language instructor in Italy and Japan.

Through his time working in education and with community colleges, including interacting with other professionals at CASE conferences and events, Westenburg said he was encouraged to take on the new role, succeeding the center's inaugural director, Paul Heaton, who was promoted to director, Office of the President, in January 2016.

"I look forward to continuing—and enhancing—the tradition of providing excellent resources that Paul has established for the center," Westenburg said. "The recent agreement between CASE and the Council for Resource Development will be one of many opportunities for us to continue to expand the programs and services for everyone working to advance community colleges, especially CEOs and grants professionals."

The Center for Community College Advancement, established in 2011, provides training and resources for community colleges to aid those in development, alumni relations, communications and marketing, and related fields.
