Student Philanthropy Awareness Campaign

It's a fact that students who make senior gifts are more likely to give as young alumni. Building a culture and understanding of philanthropy among students—as early as their freshman year—can strengthen an institution's overall giving program.

To help member institutions engage and educate students about philanthropy, CASE ASAP has introduced a student philanthropy awareness program. Key initiatives include:

"Tuition Runs Out...Philanthropy Begins" Campaign

Many students are unaware that tuition alone is not enough to cover the entire cost of their undergraduate education. This program helps advancement officers organize low-cost events to foster awareness about the importance of philanthropy on the day (often in February) that tuition runs out or another symbolic day. CASE ASAP offers institutions:

  • Programming ideas—from attaching price tags and posters to campus buildings to having students write thank you notes to donors
  • Guides with easy-to-follow steps to get started
  • Contact information for CASE ASAP advisers who have implemented similar programming on their campuses
  • Templates of specially designed marketing materials (posters, buttons, stickers and other marketing materials that can be adapted by institutions to promote their own programs)

Through the CASE InfoCenter, CASE ASAP members can access a broad array of articles and research on student philanthropy issues. These include:

  • Comprehensive Literature Review on Student Philanthropy—An extensive 170-item bibliography of student philanthropy articles and research, including CURRENTS articles, dissertations and theses, reports, white papers and news coverage.
  • Sample Collection—Materials used to organize and promote "Tomorrow Made Possible" at Gonzaga University, "Tag Day" at the University of Idaho, "Tuition Free Day" at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, and more.
  • Tuition Runs Out...Philanthropy Begins resources—Available for CASE ASAP members planning Tuition Runs Out events on their campuses.
