How Planned and Major Gift Programs Can Work Effectively to Help Donors Make Major Gifts
Ironically, some of the largest development programs with the most highly specialized staff members can be among the least effective in structuring larger gifts. With the aging of the donor base and uncertain economic climate, it is inevitable that there will need to be greater interaction between staff specialists in gift planning and those who are charged with other aspects of donor relations. Learn why historical perspectives may have contributed to this, and how successful organizations are adapting to new models that are donor-centric and team oriented. Share your organizational structures with other conference attendees and start to reexamine the best models.

Overview of Current Gift Planning Techniques
There are many ways to transfer assets from a donor to a charitable recipient. Some are immediate, some take place gradually over time, and other transfers only occur at the death of one or more persons. This session offers a review of the "tools" that are available to those working with major donors to structure gifts that result in funding in the near term with special emphasis on tax considerations, timing of gifts and the property used to fund them.

Gifts that Provide Income and Other Benefits for Donors
Prospects for major gifts are increasingly older individuals who are reluctant to make immediate gifts because of personal economic concerns. This session introduces ways donors can make gifts over time while preserving financial security for themselves and their loved ones.

Major Gifts and Estate Planning
Many gifts are of a magnitude that they can only be completed as part of a donor's comprehensive estate and financial plan. Explore various ways donors can include gifts as a component of their estates while minimizing estate taxes and meeting other concerns related to asset preservation and transfer. Attendees will gain valuable insights on how to listen for concerns donors may share with you that indicate that an estate gift may be the best option.

Structuring Cost Effective Gifts from Younger Donors
Approximately 25 percent of the U. S. population will pass the age of 65 over the coming 20 years. This group will be retiring in large numbers and moving into the time of life where they are planning for the ultimate disposition of a lifetime's accumulation of assets. The life expectancies of these persons will be from 20 to 40 years or more so it is important to examine ways to structure gifts that provide benefits in the near term while meeting concerns that might otherwise preclude such gifts.

Explore a number of actual gift scenarios that resulted in significant gifts that were not initially thought possible. Learn how careful exploration of a donor's assets, personal challenges and gift motivation can result in valuable gifts that also meet a donor's personal planning goals.

How to Work With Donors' Advisers to Facilitate Large Gifts
The best laid plans can come to naught if fundraisers are not prepared to work effectively with one or more persons who may ultimately influence the way in which a gift is structured. Learn which advisers are most influential in various situations and how their compensation and other factors naturally inform their advice. With wealth increasingly owned by widows who may depend heavily on advice of counsel and family members, it is important to learn to understand and respect the role of these persons.

Helping Donors Make Gifts While Maintaining Control of Assets
The largest recipients of gifts from the wealthy are often private foundations and other structures they create apart from traditional charitable recipients. This session presents an in-depth analysis of the ways donors and their advisers will sometimes "fence off" assets from ultimate control of charitable recipients. Learn how to understand the underlying motivations of donors who wish to maintain control and identify the best ways to help them do so from the perspective of charitable recipient.
