Tricia KingCrystal apple Tricia King
         Vice President of Global Engagement
         Council for Advancement and Support of Education

Tricia is Vice President Global Engagement at CASE - a not-for-profit that believes in advancing education to transform lives and society across the globe. She operates between CASE offices in Washington, London, Singapore and Mexico City and works with higher education leadership across 5 continents.

Tricia has worked for 4 very different UK universities over 2 decades, most recently on the leadership team in the University of London where she was Pro-Vice-Master for Strategic Engagement at Birkbeck. Her job focused on connecting an extended, diverse, passionate and committed Birkbeck community into the support of the institution and its remarkable students and staff.

Adrian PunaksAdrian Punaks
Director of Development
University College London

As Director of Development, Adrian oversees all the external-facing, relationship-building activity and teams within the Office of the Vice Provost Development, in support of the Campaign for UCL and the 2034 strategy, including fundraising, supporter communications and alumni relations.

With 14 years' experience in Higher Education Advancement, he joined UCL in 2011 having previously worked at Imperial College London, and Birkbeck, University of London. In 2010 he received the inaugural CASE Iain More Award that recognises the outstanding achievements of a development professional and he is a respected advancement professional and role model in the sector.

He served for three years as the co-chair of the fundraising track at the CASE Europe Annual Conference, and speaks frequently at seminars and events.

Adrian has helped develop the Campaign for UCL from its inception, its momentum building phase, and through to the public launch and beyond. He has had a particular focus on UCL Neuroscience and much of the partnership fundraising activity with UCL's NHS partners, as well as UCL's international activity.

Dave ShepherdDave Shepherd
Director of College Advancement

Dave Shepherd is Director of College Advancement at United World College of South East Asia (UWCSEA), a K1 - Grade 12 non-profit International school in Singapore. Dave leads the department of College Advancement, which includes fundraising, the UWCSEA Foundation, alumni relations and corporate relations.

With no formal Advancement department prior to 2006, the College has implemented a strong communications strategy, a dynamic and comprehensive alumni relations programme, and launched active fundraising via a College related Foundation. As founding Director in 2008 he introduced the school's inaugural annual fund, major gift, bequest and stewardship programmes.

A member of CASE since 2006, Dave has presented regularly at CASE events, has served as a faculty member of the CASE Asia Pacific Institute in Educational Fundraising and the CASE Philanthropy Commission. Dave is currently a member of the CASE Asia Pacific Board.

Lea SublettLea Sublett
Manager, Alumni Affairs
King Abdullah University of Science and Technology

Lea Sublett is Manager of Alumni Affairs at the King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST), a private, co-educational, graduate university in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia (which turns 10 in 2019). Lea's role has involved developing the Alumni Affairs office, and establishing globally accessible programs, events and communications for KAUST's international community of students and alumni.

Prior to relocating to Saudi Arabia in July 2016, Lea was Associate Director, Alumni Relations at the Australian National University. Her move to Saudi Arabia is a return to a region she loves and has worked throughout; Lea was Consul - Education, Science and Training for the Australian Government from 2001-2006, with oversight of 14 countries in the Middle East and North Africa.

Lea started her career in advancement in 1993, and has worked for six Australian universities. She has been a member of CASE for over 15 years, and served as a member of the CASE Asia-Pacific Advisory Council from 2013-2015.

Zoe PunaksZoë Punaks
Director of Advancement Operations and Administration
Imperial College London

As Director of Advancement Operations and Administration, Zoë leads a team of 30 responsible for managing the College's alumni and fundraising database, gift administration, legal and compliance matters for fundraising, supporter engagement (including donor relations), institutional events, and reporting on the College's philanthropic health. As well as looking after the business administration function for Advancement. Zoë joined Imperial in 2005.

Some of the projects that she oversees as part of her role, include production of the Annual Fundraising Report, the annual donor event, donor recognition circles, and participation in the Ross-CASE survey, the annual survey of gifts and costs of voluntary giving to Higher Education in the UK.

Zoë's background is in marketing, having graduated from Aston University with a BSc in Marketing and subsequently completed the Chartered Institute of Marketing's Professional Postgraduate Diploma.

Dina AbulfotuhDina Abulfotuh
Vice President for Advancement and Communications
The American University in Cairo

Dina Abulfotuh serves as vice president for advancement and communications at the American University in Cairo (AUC), a leading English-language liberal arts university in the Middle East. Appointed in 2013, Abulfotuh oversaw a reorganization of the alumni, development and communications function at the university. Working with a diverse team in Cairo and New York, as well as senior university leadership and board members, Abulfotuh is responsible for the design and execution of the university's global positioning, alumni engagement and fundraising strategy, in particular as AUC prepares for its centennial in 2019.

Previously, Abulfotuh was vice president for communications, overseeing the university's media relations, publications, marketing, Arabic outreach and online presence. Having worked at AUC for more than 13 years, Abulfotuh served in a variety of positions at the university including director of marketing, director of advancement services, director of special initiatives in the president's office and editor of the university's alumni magazine, her first position at AUC. Based in Cairo, she has extensive experience in the Middle East and is fluent in Arabic. Abulfotuh was a Fulbright scholar in Egypt, and earned her bachelor's in journalism from Arizona State University and her master's degree in business administration from AUC.

Abdulla Al KaramDr. Abdulla Al Karam
Chairman of the Board of Directors and Director General
Knowledge and Human Development Authority

Dr. Abdulla Al Karam is Chairman of the Board of Directors and Director General of the Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA), responsible for the quality and growth of Dubai's private education sector, including early learning centres, schools, universities and training institutes.

Dr. Al Karam is a board member of the National Qualifications Authority of the UAE Federal Government, as well as United Arab Emirates University. He is a board member of the Social Sector, Government of Dubai and is a member of the Higher Committee for Protection of the Rights of People with Disabilities.

He is also a member of the Board of Trustees of the Dubai Future Foundation and the Mohammed Bin Rashid University of Medicine and Health Sciences.

Previously, Dr. Abdulla held positions in various government sectors, including that of Vice Chairman and Secretary General for the Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Award for Distinguished Academic Performance, Chairman of the Dubai Government's Human Resources Committee and board member of the Dubai Knowledge Fund.

Prior to the formation of KHDA, Dr. Abdulla held the post of CEO of Dubai Knowledge Village and was also Head of Research at Dubai Internet City. He began his career as a software engineer in the United States and France. Dr. Abdulla holds a PhD in computer engineering from the University of South Carolina.

Syed is a seasoned professional with over 15 years in the advancement and fundraising industry. His expertise includes setting up advancement operations and implementing best practices in fundraising, database management, prospect research and gift processing. His portfolio includes working through two successful capital campaigns at the University of Central Florida Foundation where he managed the advancement unit with more than +350k records as the Director of Advancement Services. He was also instrumental in helping them migrate to a new database and implementing their first-ever Data Governance Committee. His passion for process improvements and robust data management allowed him to streamline several workflows resulting in a 70% performance improvement in overall speed and accuracy.

Having lived in various countries, Syed has a strong understanding of the cultural and social perspectives of the Middle East and the US markets. Since 2013, Syed has been part of the university development team at the prestigious King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST) where he served in various roles ranging from fundraising to advancement operations.

Dale CooperDale Cooper
Director of Strategic Partnerships
Queen Rania Foundation (UK and Jordan)

Dale began his career with Benetton Sports Systems, where he was responsible for coordinating marketing across 26 countries. He realised that the customer focused skills he had developed in the private sector could equally be applied to fundraising and made the move into the charity sector. In 2007 he joined King's College London, where he was part of the hugely successful £500m WorldQuestions|King'sAnswers campaign. Whilst there, he was seconded to work on the implementation of the 2012 Review of Philanthropy in UK Higher Education. In 2014 he took up the post of Director of Development at the University of Reading, launching the IMAGINE campaign with a goal of £150million and 60,000 volunteer hours. He has advised a number of institutions in the Gulf including universities, several royal foundations as well as individual Arab philanthropists. He is currently studying for an MA in Philanthropic Studies with the Centre for Philanthropy at the University of Kent.

Jonah DuffinJonah Duffin

Jonah has 15 years of experience in student recruitment and marketing both domestically and internationally. He recently joined Hotcourses Group as Chief Marketing Officer. Hotcourses are a multinational company that inspire and support people of all ages, cultures and backgrounds to make the right education choices. They specialise in digital technology and have an online portfolio generating over 66 million visits per year. Prior to this Jonah was Director of External Relations at Birkbeck University of London where he developed Birkbeck’s branding and visual ID and introduced highly successful data driven digital student recruitment campaigns. He was also responsible for leading the digital transformation project, including the implementation of a new student recruitment website.

Soha HmaidanSoha Hmaidan
Associate Vice President for Advancement Services and Special Events
American University of Beirut

Soha Hmaidan is the Associate Vice President for Advancement Services and Special Events at the American University of Beirut (AUB). She has overall strategic responsibility for Gifts, Records and Data Management, Prospect Research and Management, Stewardship, Campaign Reporting, Advancement Communications, Budget, Events Management, and Protocol. A high-energy leader with over 25 years of experience in higher education. Hmaidan has also secured leadership gifts in support of the University's mission and vision and has served as Interim AVP for Communications on several occasions in recent years.

Hmaidan holds a BBA and MBA from AUB. She is also a Certified Professional in Human Resources and Compensation.

Walid KatergiWalid Katergi, CFRE

American University of Beirut

Walid A. Katergi joined the Office of Development at the American University of Beirut in 2003. He currently serves as Associate Vice President for Development. He earned his CFRE (Certified Fund Raising Executive) in December 2012 - the first to obtain such a certification in the Arab World.

Walid fundraises for all faculties of the American University of Beirut (, a 151 year old prestigious American institution of higher learning in Beirut, Lebanon that includes a 300-bed quaternary care Medical Center. In addition, he manages a team of fundraisers based in Lebanon, and works closely with the team in New York that fundraises in the Americas.

Julia MartinezJulia Martinez, CFRE
Director of Advancement
American School of Dubai, UAE

Julia A. Martinez is the Director of Advancement for the American School of Dubai (ASD), United Arab Emirates. Launching the first-ever advancement efforts, she has developed programs in strategic communications, fundraising/development, community relations, marketing and alumni relations. Founded in 1966, ASD serves the educational needs of more than 1,800 students, K1 through grade 12, and 55 nationalities.

Previously, Julia worked in Advancement for the University of Alaska Anchorage (UAA). A Certified Fundraising Executive, she holds an MA in Philanthropic Studies from Indiana University Purdue University Indianapolis, a graduate certificate in nonprofit management, an MBA, a teaching credential and a bachelor degree in marketing. She has served on volunteer nonprofit boards, is an educator, university lecturer, financial advisor and trust and estate specialist.

Mohamed SalemProfessor Mohamed Salem
University of Wollongong in Dubai (UOWD)

Prof. Mohamed-Vall Mohamed Salem Zein was appointed January 2015 as President of the University of Wollongong in Dubai (UOWD) and has focused since then on driving initiatives to strengthen the position of UOWD as a leading academic institution in the UAE and the region. Mohamed Salem joined UOWD in 2004 and made since then important contributions to the University in a wide range of responsibilities first as member of the academic staff and later as Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Information Sciences. He worked previously as a software engineer for several years in both public and private sectors in Mauritania and Canada and collaborated in research with industry in the UAE and Canada.

Prof. Mohamed Salem received his PhD from the University of Montreal (Canada) in 2002 and is a recipient of IBM Centre for Advanced Studies PhD fellowship and the "Bourse d'excellence de la Francophonie" from the Canadian International Development Agency.

Nadine SinokrotNadine Sinokrot
Acting Director of Advancement
Birzeit University

Nadine Sinokrot is the Acting Director of Advancement at Birzeit University (BZU) in Palestine.

She worked in different academic and management areas at BZU since 2002 and participated in forming different national strategies for the Palestinian Higher Education Sector. She joined the Advancement Office in 2013.

Since 2013, Ms Sinokrot participated with founders in building the Advancement Department at BZU to move from a team of one employee and 2 volunteers in 2012 to a department of 22 employees in 2018.

Together with the Advancement team, she aims to strengthen philanthropic concepts and accomplishments in the Palestinian Higher Education System and the Palestinian Society through a variety of strategies and campaigns.
