Opening plenary- A Mindfulness Guide for the Frazzled

Ruby Wax has been honoured with the title of poster girl for mental illness; once crazy now less so, she gives a tour of the mind - how to use it, not lose it; your passport to saner living.

As a graduate of Oxford with a Masters in Mindfulness-based Cognitive Therapy and author of the best-selling book A Mindfulness Guide for the Frazzled, she really knows her stuff.

With her characteristic wit and honesty, Ruby offers a unique theoretical, practical and personal account of mindfulness and shows how making simple changes every day will help us all de-frazzle.

Out of curiosity...

Curiosity is valued and promoted in the educational landscape from recruitment materials to new headlines to campaign slogans. We work at institutions in which this trait is supposedly held in the highest esteem - but is it? Do we really encourage all levels of our teams to disrupt the norm and shake up the universe - or are we "out" of curiosity and avoid the extra effort?
When it comes to the day-to-day functioning of development teams, curious ideas and mindsets are not always fully embraced due to the stress of work overload, budget constraints, siloed mentalities, office politics, and other mind-crushing reasons.
This session will help conquer the "Why bother" mentality that can creep into our dialogues and be the killjoy at the party. We will explore how high-level curiosity is an underutilized superpower that can create stronger and deeper connection with our stakeholders in unexpected ways.
We will dive into in a whirlwind of insightful case studies in which curiosity was pivotal to their success (The inspiration!). We'll also review how misaligned curiosity can lead to unintended missteps (The drama!). This fast-paced, visually driven presentation will amuse and inspire you to unleash your curiosity superpower - or at least distract you from the drudgery of your job for 45 minutes. Either way, it's a win-win.
