Gold Awards

College of the Atlantic (ME) -


  • During the 2014-2015 academic year, College of the Atlantic worked with White Whale Web Services to create a new, responsive website to market the institution to prospective students and their parents, maintain and grow alumni relations, and give the College of the Atlantic community a dynamic, online hub for sharing news and events and accessing important information. The site launched in August 2015.

Johns Hopkins University (MD) -

  • The redesigned transformed what had been a catch-all site serving multiple audiences (current and prospective students, faculty and staff, job seekers, alumni, etc.) to a targeted site for prospective students. The site now offers those students the opportunity to explore the university's offerings.

Eckerd College (FL) - Think Outside

  • The new website employs a new look-and-feel, updated content, restructured information architecture and improved user interface focused almost completely on attracting prospective residential students. The updated content includes rewritten copy, fresh photography, a brand new virtual tour as well as video and Instagram integrations that tightly integrate with our print publications and email campaigns.

University of North Carolina School of Arts (NC) - University of North Carolina School of Arts Website Redesign

  • The redesigned institutional website for the University of North Carolina School of the Arts (UNCSA) launched in December 2015 after more than 13 years without a significant redesign or update to the school's website. The site is designed as a storytelling platform with which to tell the UNCSA "story", uniting the school's five arts conservatories under a consistent, engaging narrative that produces fresh, shareable content regularly. 

Virginia Commonwealth University (VA) - Designing for Designers: VCUarts Overhaul

  • Originally launched in 2011, the website for Virginia Commonwealth University School of the Arts had become outdated and cumbersome. The VCUarts communications team created an information architecture and visual design for the updated website. The website was developed and launched in August 2015.

Roanoke College (VA) - 


  • The website gives prospective students and families an authentic view of life at Roanoke College, relying on student-created video, photography and social media posts. The project was based on over 248 campus meetings and 14 focus groups, and required the creation of a custom-built social media curator, 3 consecutive design-phase all-nighters and a complete reworking of 134 deep-content pages. 

University of California, Berkeley (CA) - Berkeley Web Redesign Project


  • The institution's web and marketing team redesigned and launched the main Berkeley gateway website ( in early-2015 after a design and build phase of 14 months. The site is a comprehensive digital design system for a highly decentralized campus.

  • Bird Academy is a learning platform from the Cornell Lab of Ornithology featuring in-depth interactives, a media library, and courses to enhance people's exploration and knowledge of birds. 

Michigan State University (MI) - Spartans Will Website


  • The Spartans Will website was created as a way to showcase the Michigan State University brand and the work Spartans do every day. By using short, snappy brand messages, photography, and an easy-to-scroll layout, visitors quickly get an idea of who Spartans are and how they impact the world.

Boston University (MA) - College of Communication Website


  • This site works as a recruitment tool, helping position the College to attract qualified students for both undergraduate and graduate programs. It also provides information and services to faculty, current students, alumni, parents, and the greater community.

Boston University (MA) - Boston University Strategic Plan Website

  • The Boston University Strategic Plan Website is designed to create excitement around the next phase in President Robert A. Brown's vision for the University and to continue the capital campaign.

Johns Hopkins University (MD) - Johns Hopkins School of Public Health Yearlook

  • The Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health Yearlook website serves as an annual report for the School and was a collaboration between our team and partnering agency idfive. The website has a micro/macro theme-using the stories of JHSPH students and faculty to reveal the impact of the School's work and research.

Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MA) - MIT Mechanical Engineering Website


  • The MIT MechE web site highlights the department's unique culture and impact on the world and provides a user-centric and engaging experience for prospective students, alumni and donors, and the public.

School of Art Institute of Chicago (IL) - School of Art Institute of Chicago 150th Anniversary Website

  • This sub-website was created to support the School of the Art Institute of Chicago's year-long 150 Anniversary celebration.

Indiana University (IN) - I'm a Hoosier Website

  • A series of compelling text stories and videos about student-athletes at Indiana University Bloomington. IU Communications and IU Athletics partnered on the website.

University of Michigan, Ann Arbor (MI) - Battery Lab Interactive Tour

  • To promote and introduce the University of Michigan Energy Institute's new Battery Lab, the institution developed a video that provides a look at the machine resources available to laboratory users. The second, a web-based interactive tour that leverages the recorded video when appropriate, allowing users to quickly assess specific laboratory machine resources.
