General Institution Overview: The University at Buffalo was founded in 1846. The university merged with the State University of New York system in 1962. Today UB is New York State's premier public center for graduate and professional education, as well as the state's largest and most comprehensive public university. A member of the prestigious Association of American Universities, the University at Buffalo stands in the first rank among the nation's research-intensive public universities.

The University at Buffalo has approximately 27,000 full-time students, 15,000 full-time faculty members, 100-plus undergraduate majors, and 278 graduate programs. UB takes great pride in our outstanding research and educational opportunities, as well as our commitment to academic excellence, public service and outreach to local and global communities.

How Does Project Support University’s Goals? UB was honored to host the 14th Dalai Lama for a historic three-day visit to the campus. Hosting a visit by a world leader of this stature provided an exceptional reputation-building opportunity by providing a once-in-a-lifetime educational, spiritual, and cultural experience to the university community and beyond.

Project Objectives/Challenges: The primary challenge involved with this campaign was conveying the significance of His Holiness’ visit while also maintaining a respectful and deferential approach to this spiritual leader. The Web site captured the spirit of his message along with the many aspects and events of his then-forthcoming visit with constantly evolving content.

Target Audience: The target audience was primarily the university community and the residents of the Buffalo Niagara region, as well as state and national communities, peer universities, and religious leaders and scholars nationwide.
