The Fontainebleau Principles

The Fontainebleau Principles

Whereas, the CASE Board of the Trustees and the CASE Europe Board of Trustees met in joint session at INSEAD in Fontainebleau, France on 14 March 2004; and

Whereas, the two boards believe the advancement of education is fundamentally important to the quality of life, economic prosperity and upward mobility of the people of any country; and

Whereas, the two Boards recognize our common mission in strengthening educational opportunity and quality by providing support for fund raising, alumni relations, and communications & marketing professionals at educational institutions; and

Whereas, the two Boards also share common purpose in ensuring the long-term health of CASE so that the organization can continue to provide consistently high levels of service to our members; and

Whereas, the two Boards acknowledge the importance of expanding CASE's global reach at a time when educational institutions increasingly operate in a global marketplace; and

Whereas, the two Boards believe that there is significant demand for CASE services and considerable potential for growth in CASE membership in various regions of the world; and

Whereas, CASE and CASE Europe are celebrating our 30th and 10th anniversaries, respectively, and have a record of success that positions us well to enhance services to our members and to the profession;

Now, therefore be it resolved, that the members of these two Boards reaffirm that CASE is and will continue to be a global organization; and

Be it further resolved that CASE will approach globalization from a position of strength among its membership base in North America and Europe; and

Be it further resolved that CASE will vigorously pursue growth in membership outside North America of roughly ten percent per year, with a review after five years; and

Be it further resolved that revenues generated by outside North America activities will roughly equal the cost of providing those services, with a review after five years; and

Be it further resolved that CASE will pursue multiple strategies for global growth, including regular membership recruitment as well as appropriate contractual and partnership arrangements; and

Be it further resolved that CASE will consider growth opportunities in all parts of the world where interest is demonstrably high; and

Be it further resolved that CASE will conduct primary and secondary research to inform decisions about regions to be targeted for growth and about the services to be offered in those regions; and

Be it further resolved that CASE will provide programs and services tailored to regional needs where participation levels warrant; and

Be it further resolved that CASE will pursue appropriate funding opportunities to help offset the cost of identifying and providing services in global markets; and

Be it further resolved that CASE will consistently seek to include global perspectives in its major programs and publications;

And be it finally resolved that the CASE Board and the CASE Europe Board will include strong international representation among our members and global viewpoints in our deliberations.
