CASE Appoints Advancement Leader Vice President of Education

Washington, DC—Robert L. Henry, an executive with extensive experience in management and educational advancement, has been appointed vice president of education at the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE), it has been announced by President Sue Cunningham.

The selection of Henry, currently executive director of emerging constituencies and online programs at CASE, concludes a global search to succeed Norma Walker, who retires this year after 34 years with the organization. Henry's appointment is effective July 1, 2016.

Henry will be responsible for creating an overall global strategy for achieving CASE's vision and mission related to talent management, and for guiding conference programming, diversity/inclusion initiatives, research, and the CASE Information Center. He will serve as a member of the CASE executive leadership team, whose accountabilities are central to the strategic direction of CASE.

"CASE is in the process of launching a strategic plan that will set its course for years to come, and a key element of that plan is our approach to educational programs, research and information on behalf of our members," Cunningham said. "I am delighted that Rob Henry has agreed to step up and lead this vital effort. His experience as both a CASE manager and a volunteer will enable him to bring the kind of ideas and energy that will capitalize on the magnificent educational foundation established under the leadership of Norma Walker. It is wonderful, with this appointment, to see the senior team at CASE now in place to deliver the aspirational plan contributed by members, volunteers and staff across the globe."

Formerly an active CASE volunteer speaker and advisor, Henry joined the CASE staff in 2006 as head of emerging constituencies, later adding the responsibility for online educational programs. He previously held advancement management positions at Yale University, the University of Connecticut Foundation, and Michigan State University.

After earning a bachelor's degree at Murray State University and a master's at Eastern Michigan University, Henry began his career in student affairs, later moving into advancement work in telemarketing and annual giving at Michigan State. After three years in annual and special giving at the University of Connecticut, he spent three years at Yale as director of individual giving for the School of Management.

As a CASE volunteer prior to joining the staff, Henry was a speaker at the CASE Summer Institute in Educational Fundraising, the CASE Europe Annual Conference, the Asia-Pacific Institute in Educational Fundraising, the CASE Congresos in Latin America, the conference on Diverse Philanthropy and Leadership, the Annual Giving Trio Conference, and the  CASE/Kresge Historically Black Colleges and Universities Initiative. He also worked with CASE/Carnegie Africa Dean's Training and the Inyathelo South African Institute for Advancement Conference, and served on the CASE Commission on Philanthropy. He received the CASE Crystal Apple Award for excellence in teaching in 2006.
