A recent national survey reveals that most alumni relations programs at community colleges are nascent, remain small in scope and have thinly spread budgets. However, the survey also reveals that these institutions are adopting several best practices that have led to early successes.

Professors from Dalton State University, Paradise Valley Community College, University of South Florida and the National Technical Institute for the Deaf at Rochester Technical Institute were recognized as the 2012 U.S. Professors of the Year during a luncheon and awards ceremony Nov. 15 at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C. Professors from 31 other institutions around the country, including Washington, D.C., were recognized as state winners.
The CASE annual report features a look at trends during the 2012 fiscal year and includes various facts, data and member quotes. It also includes financial information about CASE and a list of its donors and sponsors during the fiscal year.
CASE has extended the U.S. and Canadian version of its annual compensation survey to Nov. 30, 2012.
Advancement professionals eager to learn more about social media are encouraged to read the CASE blog, which features posts on a variety of social media topics in alumni relations, communications, marketing and fundraising.
Higher education institutions in the UK are encouraged to participate in the Ross-CASE survey of gift revenue and fundraising costs. The deadline for responses is Friday 23 November.
CASE Asia-Pacific held a networking session last month for advancement professionals in New Zealand at the University of Auckland, which recently completed one of the country's most ambitious and successful educational fundraising campaigns.
2012 has been a watershed year for UK higher education, especially in student admissions and institutional income. And while some universities are flourishing in the new world, others are not, according to one UK higher education leader who says marketing professionals must learn how to position their institutions in today's more competitive market.
Philanthropy is playing an increasingly important role as a sustainable income stream across the education sector in Europe. CASE Europe has multiple events in 2013 designed to engage and provide support for senior leaders who want to better understand and increase their fundraising role at their institutions.
CASE Board Chair Paul Sheff has appointed Elizabeth Scarborough, chief executive officer of SimpsonScarborough, as chair of the CASE Industry Advisory Council and as a liaison to the CASE Board of Trustees. The appointment is for a two-year term.

The District II conference, Building Bridges, Making Connections, is scheduled for March 3-5, 2013, at the Westin Hotel in Pittsburgh. The conference will focus on making connections in various ways within the advancement profession as well as connecting advancement work to larger issues, such as diversity, strategic planning and building institution brand. The district's grants program (Venture Capital Fund) had a successful fall and has approved grants to six institutions totaling more than $11,000 in awards. The district will have another call for applications in the spring with a deadline of April 1 to apply. More information is available on the District II website.
CASE District III members are encouraged to register for the upcoming conference and secure a reservation at the Omni CNN in Atlanta.

Denison University President Dale T. Knobel will receive this year's CASE V Chief Executive Leadership Award and University of Wisconsin-La Crosse Director of News and Marketing Brad Quarberg will receive the district's Distinguished Service Award. Both will be honored at the annual conference.
