CASE ended 2010-11 with record membership and on a solid financial footing, said CASE President John Lippincott in his annual report to members.
Fundraisers at educational institutions in the United States estimate that donations during the academic year that ended June 30, 2011, increased by 4.7 percent. Looking ahead, fundraisers predict further growth of 5.5 percent for the academic year that began July 1, 2011. That’s according to survey results released today by CASE.
American institutions of higher education are looking for new sources of revenue as their traditional sources are tested in this post-recession economy.
Are bonuses a bad idea or a brilliant one? The answer depends on who you ask, and emotions tend to run strong on either side. But results from the 2011 CASE Compensation Survey showed that bonuses are slowly becoming more commonplace, with 13.4 percent of fundraisers saying they are eligible to receive a bonus.

CASE has announced that it will establish an ongoing presence in Latin America to expand and adapt its services to educational institutions throughout the region.
The CASE Board of Trustees, meeting July 9 in Chicago prior to the CASE Summit for Advancement Leaders, voted to establish an ongoing CASE presence in Latin America and endorsed a set of new initiatives designed to enhance service to members in North America, Europe and the Asia-Pacific region.
The CASE membership has formally elected 12 individuals to fill open positions on the CASE Board of Trustees.
Members are encouraged to participate in the International CASE Alumni Relations Survey, which launches 8 August.
More than 550 college students and advancement professionals will gather Aug. 4-6 at the CASE ASAP Network Convention in Nashville, Tenn., to learn strategies to further their student advancement programs, network with peers and interact with top leaders in the student advancement field.
CASE Asia-Pacific will launch a series of master-class sessions, beginning in August.
CASE Europe will launch a benchmarking survey of fundraising activities at independent schools in the UK. The survey opens this fall.
CASE is seeking applications for an educational programs manager based out of its Washington, D.C., office.

CASE and 22 other nonprofit associations and organizations have sent a joint letter to the U.S. House and Senate leadership urging lawmakers to protect the value of the charitable deduction by opposing efforts to cap the value of itemized deductions for charitable contributions.
U.S. colleges and universities that have received charitable gifts of $250,000 or more from foreign sources in the last six months must file a disclosure report with the U.S. Department of Education.

District IV
Because supporting and mentoring aspiring institutional advancement professionals is critical, CASE District IV's board of directors has renewed its commitment to CASE ASAP by dedicating budget money to that group for 2011-2012.
The district also sponsored an ASAP student member, Alejandra Garcia from the University of Texas at El Paso, so she could attend the national ASAP conference in Nashville this month. Garcia is president-elect of the UTEP Student Alumni Association; a National Society of Collegiate Scholars member; an Alpha Lambda Delta Honor Society member; and a member of the University Honors Council.
