Survey: U.S. Education Fundraisers Predict Growth in Giving for 2010

Fundraisers for U.S. schools, colleges and universities predict that giving will increase 3.7 percent during 2010, according to survey results released today by the Council for Advancement and Support of Education. For 2009, the CASE Fundraising Index estimates that giving declined less than 1 percent from the previous year.

The District II annual conference, "Vision 2010: Seeing the Possibilities," at the Philadelphia Marriott Downtown is only a few weeks way. Individuals can still register for the conference and make hotel reservations on the conference Web site. Note that the discounted hotel room rate of $189 is available only until Jan. 21. Despite tight budgets, hundreds of CASE advancement practitioners have already registered for the conference, and it promises to be a great value for the investment of time and resources.

Also, proposals are now being accepted for the second round of District II Venture Capital Funding in 2009-2010. The deadline for submission is Feb. 15, 2010. More information is available on the District II Web site under the "Services and Programs" button.

District IV is proud to report that Justin H. Lonon, Dallas County Community College District's vice chancellor for public and governmental affairs, has received the 2009 Edwin Crawford Award for Innovation during the national 2009 Higher Education Government Relations Conference in Orlando, Fla.

DCCCD Chancellor Wright Lassiter Jr., who nominated Lonon for the award, says Lonon's approach to governmental relations includes all of the "absolutes" as well as innovative methods that tell DCCCD's story.

"He enables us to garner more funds and legislative support, and he places students ‘front and center' so that they can tell their stories to policymakers and talk about the value of community colleges in their lives," Wright says. "Justin has used his knowledge and skills during the past four years to build a strong reputation for the Dallas County Community College District with state and national legislators through a network that he created and energized to meet our governmental relations goals."
