On Feb. 7, the House of Representatives passed the College Opportunity and Affordability Act of 2007 (H.R. 4137), a five-year reauthorization of the Higher Education Act, on a 354-58 vote.
On Jan. 24, Senate Finance Committee Chairman Max Baucus (D-Mont.) and ranking member Charles Grassley (R-Iowa) sent letters to 136 colleges and universities requesting additional information about endowments, endowment spending practices and tuition-setting practices.
President Bush’s fiscal year 2009 budget request includes a proposal that would permanently extend an IRA Charitable Rollover provision that expired on Dec. 31.
