CASE Blog: Annual Fundraising Plans for Community Colleges

Community college advancement shops that lack an annual fundraising plan may be missing an important part of their mission, writes Jeff Bagel with Erie Community College Foundation.

"An AFP develops outcomes that can be used for college assessment and future planning. An effective AFP sets expectations and helps staff members reach their individual goals while clearly defining their roles and responsibilities," writes Bagel in a recent post on the CASE Blog.

Bagel, an author and associate vice president of foundation and alumni relations at Erie Community College Foundation, explores annual fundraising plans in his recent CASE book Annual Fundraising Plans Made Simple: A Road Map for Community Colleges and Small Development Shops.

It's possible that the annual fundraising plan that a community college employs is not effective, comprehensive or realistic, writes Bagel. This is an opportunity for growth, he notes.

"Take a step back for a moment and reevaluate. Clear your head. Try to look at it from the viewpoint of a third party, such as a consultant," he writes.
