Description

In response to the impact that the 2008 economic crisis had on students, Syracuse University created a mini-campaign to raise funds for students who faced the distinct possibility of not returning for the spring 2009 semester. "Syracuse Responds," a 45-day fundraising initiative, raised more than $1 million in only seven weeks, and the funds enabled 426 students in need to return to Syracuse in January 2009.

The campaign also created an opportunity for Syracuse to educate its constituents on the fundamental principles of financial aid, and campaign e-solicitations spurred online giving to new heights—especially from young, first-time donors.

Veronica Hotaling, Syracuse University executive director of development communications, and Tammy Schlafer, Syracuse executive director for annual giving programs, give first-hand information about the workings of the campaign, from the involvement of multiple staff members and departments, to daily meetings, to managing and integrating the message across communication channels and across giving levels.

During this webinar, participants will:

  • Discover the tactics to ensure an integrated, multichannel approach across communications channels and giving levels,
  • Learn the key components to creating an urgent, relevant and fast-paced initiative,
  • Hear best practices for collaborating across departments to generate buy-in and enthusiasm and
  • Explore the importance of consistent messaging and transparent reporting to keep audiences engaged and reinforce a consistent brand and case for support.
