About the Author

Douglas R. Gortner

Douglas R. Gortner is the director of development at The Putney School. After working as an international underwriter, a trust officer and a commercial banker, he started his development career by launching deferred giving programs at Deerfield Academy and, later, at the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. Since 1991, he has served as director of development and alumni affairs at the University of Toronto (graduate school), executive director of the McMichael Canadian Art Foundation and director of advancement at a small day-boarding school in Pennsylvania.
