Description

Stuart R. Grover offers specific guidance for community colleges for every step of planning, carrying out and following up on campaigns, from testing feasibility, to identifying supporters, to thanking and retaining volunteers and donors.

Grover addresses these questions and more:

  • What makes raising money for community colleges unique?
  • Why is raising money for small, rural schools different from raising money for larger schools or multicampus systems?
  • How can you ensure that your program meets donors’ needs while being transparent and accountable?
  • Which processes result in the largest gifts and the most satisfied donors?
  • How can you ensure that the entire campus and your surrounding community get involved?

Getting the Green is published by the American Association of Community Colleges in partnership with CASE and the Council for Resource Development.

About the Author

Stuart R. Grover

Stuart R. Grover received his doctorate in history from the University of Wisconsin in 1971. Over the following decade he taught at several universities. He also directed marketing efforts for the for-credit continuing education department at Ohio State University before founding and publishing a community newspaper in Columbus, Ohio.

In 1982, he moved to the Northwest, where he founded Stuart Grover and Associates, a fundraising consulting firm. In 1990, the firm merged with The Collins Group, which grew to be the largest consulting firm in the region. During the period when he owned The Collins Group, Grover oversaw more than 140 capital campaigns that raised more than $1 billion. Community and technical college campaigns were a particular passion for him.

In addition to writing Getting the Green, Grover is the author of Capital Campaigns: A Guide for Board Members, a chapter on feasibility studies in The Manual of Museum Planning and many articles.
