Description
Kirkwood Community College launched its planned giving program in 1994 with one full-time staff person dedicated to planned giving. In 13 years, the college has secured more than $14 million in expectancies and realized gifts and built relationships with hundreds of donors and potential donors.
Sue Hawn, immediate past director of planned giving at the Kirkwood Foundation and now president of the Mercy Medical Center Foundation in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, provides a detailed overview of the steps to initiating a planned giving program—or reigniting a dormant one. She offers a plan for developing the program as a source of long-term private support for your community college, independent school or other smaller organization.
