A 2009 CASE survey of community relations professionals provided valuable data on the ways educational institutions support their relationship with their physical and virtual communities. The data showed that two-thirds of those engaged in community relations do not have those words in their job title, nor do they share a common office in which this work is done.
Mark Kemball, the survey's creator and the manager of community relations at OHSU School of Medicine, shares the data and provides some of the conclusions regarding this "hidden" discipline. Ira Harkavy, the founding director of Penn's Netter Center for Community Partnerships, shows how academic institutions as well as communities benefit from a good relationship.
The webinar also discusses a community relations program at Lee University in Tennessee that enrolls local older adults in college courses.
