University College London
UCL is organizing a Philanthropy month in February 2015 to raise student awareness of the impact of philanthropy at UCL and celebrate those who support the University. Viewed by many as UCL’s spiritual father, the philosopher Jeremy Bentham’s auto icon sits in the South Cloisters at UCL. Jeremy was one of the first investors in UCL when he bought a £100 share in the University during its foundation and he is very fondly regarded by the student community. Drawing on this connection, Philanthropy month activity will culminate in a world record attempt to gather together the largest number of people impersonating Jeremy by wearing cardboard face masks. All the students who participate in this event on 24 February will be asked to make a voluntary donation in support of UCL Scholarships and Bursaries. Throughout the month, students will also be able to participate in an interactive social media campaign which will encourage them to answer questions about philanthropy at UCL and post their very own Jeremy Bentham selfies.
