Meet the Millenials
Gen X? Gen Y? Millenials? Explore the characteristics of the generations who are our current students and young alumni. What turns them off? What turns them on? With this knowledge you'll be ready to start creating or improving a student and young alumni engagement program.

10:45 AM-12:15 PM
Elective Sessions (choose one)

  • Student and Young Alumni Philanthropy (Repeated at 9:30 AM on Tuesday)
Turning our university's current students into alumni donors is a goal we all share. Perhaps you aspire to generate gifts from your student and young alumni programs. With increasing philanthropic options for our alumni, universities must act much earlier to educate students about the importance of giving back to their alma maters. Learn how to build a solid base of loyal support among current students and recent graduates. Review best practices nationwide and current trends in annual giving. Explore new opportunities to solicit gifts from your university's most recent and upcoming graduates.
  • Student-Alumni Societies
Alumni leadership can begin long before students leave campus. Student alumni societies are effective tools for educating students about alumni life, for creating lifelong volunteers for the university and for raising your visibility on campus. Learn how to build a student alumni society that fits your needs and find out how to leverage it for a stronger campus presence.
  • Young Alumni Programming (Repeated at 9:30 AM on Tuesday)
Try sending a letter to a young alumnus through the U.S. mail system (strike one) to his or her home address (strike two) with an invitation to attend his or her class reunion (strike three-you're out). How do we communicate with our youngest alumni? What tools and technology should we use to reach out to them? What kind of programming will attract young alumni? How do affinity groups (special interest groups) factor into the equation? Explore these questions (and more) and discuss cutting edge best practices from our industry in young alumni programs.

12:15-2:00
Small group lunches with colleagues and faculty

2:00-3:30
Elective Sessions (choose one)

  • Partnering with Student Affairs
Want to improve your relationships with your student affairs colleagues? Or perhaps tap into popular programs already established by student groups and student life, creating greater visibility for development and alumni relations? Creating key partnerships with existing programs on your campus is critical to a successful student giving program. Learn how to overcome common university obstacles. Explore key student affairs offices on campus and learn how you can best collaborate to create more effective and enticing programs.
  • Engaging Students as Future Alumni
How do you train current students to be "good alumni?" Is it ever too early to start introducing the concept of alumni-hood to undergraduates? What are effective programming ideas for your future alumni? What can you do with first years, sophomores, juniors and seniors that will create stellar alumni? Discuss the training ground for alumni-hood...your own college campus! We'll look at several case studies and review national best practices in working with current students.
  • Alumni Relations' Role in Career Services
Are your young alumni looking to you for career support? Are students asking to network with alumni? Explore best practices and examples of alumni career services, including both services for alumni and programs to engage alumni in support of current students.

3:45-5:15
Trends in Social Networking, Social Media and Technology
