Spring Institute in Educational Fundraising
Format of the Institute

The Spring Institute in Educational Fundraising is intensive and demands hard work, but the atmosphere is upbeat, inspiring and fun. With an action-oriented approach, you will return home with a clear sense of what your job entails and a network of supportive contacts to help you deliver. The training is provided through a combination of plenary, tutorial, and elective sessions plus a practical group project.

Plenary Sessions

All participants come together to hear about the following key elements of fundraising:

  • Annual and Regular Giving
  • Major Gifts
  • Campaigns and Special Projects
  • Ethics
  • What donors say
Tutorial Sessions

The tutorial sessions enable you to meet with your tutor and a group of like-minded colleagues on a daily basis to reflect on the experience as you go. They will provide you with the opportunity to further your understanding of what you have learnt and put your questions to the tutor.

Tutorial groups work on a practical project, which is presented as part of the culmination of the course.

Elective Sessions

Over the course of the week you can choose from up to 50 elective sessions. These interactive, open discussions will enable you to tailor the course to your specific needs by self selecting the sessions relevant to you and your institution.

Topics covered include:

  • Telephone fundraising
  • Alumni relations and fundraising
  • Working with leaders
  • Corporate fundraising
  • Practical etiquette for fundraisers
  • Fundraising for scholarships and bursaries
  • Fundraising in a difficult economy
  • Using new media and social networking
  • Regular giving strategies
