Summer Institute in Communications and Marketing

The Summer Institute in Communications & Marketing is the only institute to offer specialized professionals workshops for those attendees focused on magazines or marketing plans.

Workshops are included in the institute registration fee, but you must register for the workshop when you register for the institute. There are limited spaces for each workshop so you are not guaranteed a spot unless you receive a registration confirmation.


Three workshop tracks are being offered:
  • Magazine Workshop
    The Magazine Workshop is a special track designed for relatively new editors looking for a comprehensive program on alumni and university magazines. In a series of hands-on sessions, you'll explore the essentials of magazine writing, editing and production, plus analyze your own magazine and those of your classmates. You'll get tips on how to perform a major makeover or make strategic tweaks that will take your magazine to new heights.
  • Marketing Plan Workshop
    The Marketing Plan Workshop is perfect for those who are struggling to write or overhaul their institution's marketing plan. Bring your institution's marketing plan—if one exists—to use as a starting point as you develop a new direction that is strategic, service-oriented and smart. You will emerge with a firm foundation for an effective marketing plan.
  • Web Workshop
    The Web Workshop is designed to help those new to managing web communications learn the ropes. The sessions will focus on the communications aspect of the web, not the technical. You will learn how to organize your web projects, hire and manage the right personnel and use website analytics to track and report your success.

Participants who are registered for a special workshop MUST attend all three Workshop sessions, and may not attend any other workshop.
