Annual Giving in 2013
What does the field of annual giving look like today? Who's working in it? What resources do they use? Which tactics do they think are important? Review the findings from a current market research study and explore the key characteristics, trends and best practices of annual giving in 2013.

2:30-3:30
Elective Sessions (choose one)

  • Beyond Dialing for Dollars: Maximizing Phonathon in Your Annual Fund
For years, phonathon programs were simple: provide calling lists to students or volunteers and then ask for pledges. Why not extend your phonathon efforts to include stewardship, leadership giving, volunteer recruitment, etc? Review ideas and results that can help redefine phonathon's value to an annual giving program.
  • Leveraging Brands
  • Big Gifts in Small Packages: Annual Giving in a Small Shop
Leverage your annual fund's potential in your small shop. Pick up the most efficient and effective strategies for your annual fund team. Leverage volunteers, refine your structure and processes and glean tips from the schools who do it best. After all, the best things come in small packages.

3:45- 4:45
Direct Mail Success
Review the requirements for direct marketing success and discuss messaging and packaging. Look at inexpensive ways to test and challenge the perception of what constitutes good or bad direct mail. We'll look at examples of some of the more creative appeals we've encountered over the years and, if time allows, invite you to share your own story of a successful (or unsuccessful) appeal.

  • Building a Foundation for the Future: Young Alumni Giving
Recent grads probably make up one of the largest, and most challenging, segments of your alumni base. It's essential that we understand how to add new donors, steward current givers and develop a philanthropic spirit among this critical population.
  • Stewardship and Donor Relations: Turn Up the Volume!
Sure, stewardship matrixes and acknowledgement letters have their place. But it's time to zoom out and focus on the big picture: how do we make our donors feel? Stewardship is an experience, not a boring tax receipt. Turn up the volume and show your donors how you value them. Pull back the curtain and highlight the tremendous impact they make on your school. This session will identify best practices and the schools that do it best!
