Getting to Oxford

Arriving by air
Oxford is within each reach of several of the UK's major airports: London Heathrow, London Gatwick and Birmingham International.

From London Heathrow:
The Oxford Bus Company operates a 24 hour service to and from Heathrow to Oxford Central Bus Station. The X70 bus takes approximately 1 hour 40 minutes to/from terminals 1-4 and 1hr 20 minutes to/from terminal 5.

Alternatively, take the Heathrow Express to Paddington Station (15 minutes) and from there take the train to Oxford Station (1hour). Visit First Great Western's website for times and tickets.

From London Gatwick:
The Oxford Bus Company operates a 24 hour service to and from the north and south terminals at Gatwick. The X80 service takes 2 hours 30 minutes.
Alternatively, take the Gatwick Express to Victoria Stations (30 minutes), take the Circle underground line to Paddington Station, and from there a train to Oxford Station. Visit First Great Western for times and tickets.

From Birmingham International:
A regular train service runs from the airport to Oxford Station and takes just 1 hour. Visit Cross Country Trains for times and tickets.

From Stansted and Luton:
The National Express bus service 737 runs from these airports and takes approximately 4 hours.

Arriving by bus
Fast and frequent services run from central London to central Oxford and back. The journey takes 1 hour 40 minutes, a little longer during rush hours.

The Oxford Tube (24 hour service)

Arriving by train
A frequent, direct train service operates from London Paddington Station to Oxford (First Great Western) and between Birmingham New Street and Oxford (Cross Country Trains).

Arriving by car:

From London:
Take the M40 northwest out of London; leave the motorway at junction 8 sign posted towards the A40/Oxford.
Or take the M4 south west out of London, leaving the motorway at junction 13. Follow signs for the A34 north towards Oxford and take the exit from the A34 towards the A4144/Oxford/Ring Road.

From Birmingham:
Take the M40 south towards Oxford, exiting at junction 9 for the A41/A34 towards Oxford/Bicester/Aylesbury/Newbury.

Please be aware that bus lane enforcement is in operation in Oxford which restricts access through the city centre.

Parking
The Westgate car park is the main central Oxford car park, with Gloucester Green and Worcester Street also close by. Find further details on parking.


Departing from Bristol

By train
Bristol Temple Meads is the main railway station, situated approximately 15 minutes' walk from the City Centre. The 8 and 9 bus services run frequently between Bristol Temple Meads Station and the city centre, Broadmead and Cabot Circus.

Cross Country Trains operate between Bristol Temple Meads and Birmingham, the North East, Edinburgh and Penzance. First Great Western run regular services to Bristol from London Paddington, Reading, Swindon, Bath, Taunton, Exeter, Plymouth, Cardiff, Gloucester and Cheltenham.

Bristol Parkway station is situated to the north of the city and can be accessed via bus service no. 73, which runs regularly between Bristol Parkway and the city centre. Cross Country Trains run services to Bristol Parkway from Penzance, Birmingham, the North East and Scotland. First Great Western also run services to, through and from Bristol Parkway.

By bus or coach
Bristol Bus Station is situated on Marlborough Street, near Broadmead shopping centre. National Express coach services operate from the bus station to cities across the UK, including direct bus services to London Heathrow (approximately 2 hours) and Gatwick airport (approximately 3 1/2 hours).

London Flyer coaches run between Bristol and London.

By air
Bristol Airport is situated just 8 miles south of central Bristol, and is easily accessed via the A38. Direct flights operate to Bristol Airport from across the UK and Europe.

Bristol International Flyer express coach service offers a convenient way to get to the airport, with regular coaches running from Bristol city centre bus and train stations to the airport throughout the day. The journey takes around 30 minutes and tickets are available from the driver. Find out more about Bristol International Flyer.

By car
The M5 and M4 motorways are easily accessible from Bristol.

Oxford
