Speaker: Alison Cahn, Director of Marketing and Communications, /Karen Leithead, Communications Manager, Kingston University

If people sell to people, then publications have to tell human stories. How do you go about collecting case studies and ensuring that you can write them up in a way that best tells the story of your organisation, whether for recruitment or to influence stakeholders.

David Penney of Gloucestershire County Council, will talk about the power of the human story and his experiences of conveying a strong brand through case studies.

Session 4:
Committing to paper?
With budgets squeezed and on-line environments booming, what it is the role of paper? Which influencers still need paper or when does is still have best effect? Will cyber space take over and recruitment move on-line?

The Publications Forum gives you a chance to debate these issues with the day's speakers. You will be able to email questions in advance to..... You'll also be asked to complete a survey to show current trends which will be presented on the day.

Session 5:
The case for my cause
With the matched funding scheme prompting significant new opportunities, how do communications staff support the effort to raise new funds? A document that outlines the case for support is one of the most significant tools but is it really so different from other publications we produce?

Ian Rowley, Director of Development, Communications and Strategy, University of Warwick, will talk about how he tackled the production of their case for support.

Session 6:
Writing for websites
What writing techniques can you draw on to write for your webpages? How do you convey your institution's character, while still providing the straightforward information to satisfy your website's users?

Susie Baker, Communications Director, Oxford Brookes University, will show the techniques they've been working on. You will have the chance to try the ideas out for yourself in this interactive session.
