Master Class: Best Practices for Engaging Alumni

Aug. 2, 2012
Meeting Room 3, Level 4, Chancellory Building, University of Malaya
Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

9 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. SGT/HKT/WST

Host institution: University of Malaya

You all know who they are: The star alumni volunteers who raise their hands to help you and your organization at every meeting, program or special event, year after year. They are valuable assets, but alumni relations officers aim to increase participation among alumni of all ages and backgrounds. This masterclass focuses on the topic of alumni engagement by starting with a discussion about the benefits of working with alumni and the motivations behind your institution and your alumni agreeing to be partners.

The second session reviews volunteerism: Types of volunteer opportunities, recruitment methods and why metrics and assessments have become critical barometers for measuring effective practices. A group activity will allow participants to develop a customized volunteer recruitment plan. Alumni love events, and an afternoon session shares best practices for engaging alumni through creative and innovative special events both at home and abroad.

The final, interactive session uses case studies to discuss tactics for working with donors and creating pathways for increased volunteerism. There will be ample break times for invaluable networking and exchange of ideas.

Who should attend:
  • Volunteer relations managers or officers
  • Alumni relations managers and officers responsible for alumni engagement from schools or institutions
  • Non-profit managers and program officers interested in expanding their alumni circles
  • Non-profit campaign/development officers interested in organizing special events and/or alumni events
