Wayne Clough is the 12th secretary of the Smithsonian Institution, the world's largest museum and research complex. The Smithsonian includes 19 museums and galleries, 20 libraries, the National Zoo and nine research centers and has activities in nearly 100 countries.
He is responsible for an annual budget of $1 billion with about 6,000 employees. As a federal trust, the Smithsonian receives about 65 percent of its funding from the federal government and generates funding from contributions and business activities such as museum shops.
Since Clough became secretary in 2008, more than 350 exhibitions have opened across the Smithsonian. He has overseen the opening of major permanent exhibitions, including the Star-Spangled Banner at the National Museum of American History, the Hall of Human Origins at the National Museum of Natural History, the new wing at the National Air and Space Museum's Udvar-Hazy Center and Asia Trails at the National Zoo.
Before his appointment to the Smithsonian, Clough was president of the Georgia Institute of Technology for 14 years. He was a member of the faculty at Duke University, Stanford University and Virginia Tech. He served as head of the department of civil engineering and dean of the College of Engineering at Virginia Tech and as provost at the University of Washington. He is the recipient of eight honorary doctorates.
He received his bachelor's and master's degrees in civil engineering from Georgia Tech and his doctorate in civil engineering from the University of California, Berkeley.
Steven Cochrane

Steven Cochrane is managing director of Moody's Analytics. He oversees the U.S. regional forecasting service and directs the research and development activities of the research staff. He oversees the forecasts for all 50 states and developed the Global Cities service. He also edits the Regional Financial Review, the monthly publication that analyzes U.S. macro, regional, industry and international trends.
An analyst with Moody's Analytics since 1993, Cochrane has been featured on Wall Street Radio, the PBS NewsHour and CNBC.
He earned a doctorate in regional science from the University of Pennsylvania, a master's degree from the University of Colorado Denver and a bachelor's degree from the University of California, Davis.
Lois G. Lerner
Director, Exempt Organizations
Internal Revenue Service
Lois Lerner is the director of exempt organizations for the Internal Revenue Service. She oversees approximately 900 employees who are responsible for reviewing applications for tax-exempt status, developing guidance and rulings, conducting examinations and other compliance activities, and carrying out customer education and outreach efforts.
Lerner joined the IRS as the director of EO Rulings and Agreements in 2001, after serving as general counsel for the Federal Election Commission. Prior to that, she served for fourteen years as the Commission's associate general counsel for enforcement. Lerner began her career in government as a staff attorney in the Honor's Program at the United States Department of Justice.
She led the first comprehensive redesign of the Form 990, the information form filed with the IRS by tax-exempt organizations. The redesigned form enhances transparency by providing key financial information, as well as information about the activities, operations, structure and governance practices of exempt organizations. Most recently, she hosted the Fourth International Charity Regulators Conference bringing together executive level charity regulators from across the globe to share best practices, engage in policy discussions, build relationships and encourage collaboration among the jurisdictions.
Lerner received her undergraduate degree from Northeastern University and her law degree from Western New England College. She is a member of the Massachusetts Bar and past president of the Council on Governmental Ethics Laws (COGEL), an international association of ethics regulators. In 2008 she received the prestigious COGEL award.

She is the first vice chair of the board of trustees of the Girl Scouts of the United States and chair of the board of Video Volunteers. In 2012, she was named one of "30 Outstanding Women" advancing women and girls' leadership by the National Council for Research on Women.
