Fundraising and Development Study Tour 2011

May 1 - 6, 2011
Marriott Hotel, Toronto Eaton Centre
Toronto, Canada

The Canadian experience of fundraising represents an especially useful model for Australian and UK universities, given the shared history of public funding and the relatively short time scale over which Canadian universities have invested in development programmes. Starting May 2010, CASE Asia-Pacific and CASE Europe have run a joint tour for senior colleagues from Australia and the UK. The study will focus on four leading institutions all delivering successful, high-impact advancement programmes:

  • McMaster University
  • University of Guelph
  • University of Toronto
  • Wilfird Laurier University

Key elements of the Canadian Study Tour:
  • Briefing and introduction in Toronto
  • Access to key players and decision makers including: University Presidents, Deans, key volunteers and heads of advancement and their staff
  • Discussion with distinguished advancement professionals including:
    • Joanna Motion, Vice President for International Operations, CASE. Ms Motion established the first development and alumni office at the University of Melbourne.
    • Lorna Somers, Vice President, McMaster University Foundation, one of CASE's highest-rated communicators. Ms Somers is a faculty member at the UK Spring Institute in Educational Fundraising as well as Asia-Pacific Institute in Educational Fundraising at the Melbourne Business School (Oct 25-29, 2010).
  • Follow-up debrief in Sydney for Asia-Pacific participants and institutional colleagues and in London for European participants.

Who should attend?

This is a high level and small-scale opportunity, aimed at Vice-Chancellors and DVCs/PVCs whose portfolio includes Development/Advancement plus Directors of Development. Spaces are strictly limited.
