Philanthropy in education today

Today, philanthropy is playing an increasingly important role as a sustainable income stream across the higher education sector. The recent 2012 status report from HEFCE, Review of Philanthropy in UK Higher Education, shows philanthropic giving to UK universities has continued to increase. Over the last five years, since 2006-07, income from philanthropic giving has increased by 35% to £693m from 204,000 donors, which is a 54% increase in donors over the same period.

The challenges are primarily about the future of university funding and that institutions will be depending more and more on philanthropy to fund the university activities. Following the government's matched funding scheme for voluntary giving, the challenge for the sector is to continue the progress made over the past three years and embed good fundraising practice and a culture of philanthropy across our institutions. This requires Governors, Vice-Chancellors, Deans and other senior institutional leaders and academics to better understand their active part in developing and engaging donors and channeling support for student assistance, scholarships, access and research.

Who should attend?

This seminar is for Principals, Deans and Pro-Vice Chancellors of higher education institutions and schools that have projects in need of further funding.

Who's involved?

The forum, led by Chris Cox, Director of Development, University of Manchester and Lorna Somers, Director of Development and Vice-President, McMaster University Foundation, will transform the way you see fundraising and your role in the process.
