PART I: Learning from each other and formulating key questions

This session, based on the questionnaire participants fill out prior to the conference, is your chance to meet colleagues who share similar experiences and help you build a supportive network. In groups, you will discuss the current issues in alumni relations, communications, fundraising and marketing as well as share best practices, including how to avoid those obvious pitalls, from institutions around Europe.

Each group will formulate two questions, dilemmas or issues that they will present, in the second part of the workshop on Tuesday, to a Vice-Chancellor and President from leading institutions in Europe.

Topics:
1. Raising your sights: putting advancement on the head of institution's list of priorities
Isabel Penne, Director - Academic Partnerships, Leuven University Fund

2. Managing high-level volunteers
Barbara de Colombe, Déléguée Générale, Fondation HEC

3. Alumni relations and fundraising: where to start?

0900 - 10.30 Joining up the dots: managing your reputation internationally, leveraging your profile and fundraising

Our institutions all have international dimensions to them, whether these are related to research collaborations, student and alumni constituencies or simply global reputation aspirations. This session examines how the advancement function is critical to international positioning and why success can best be achieved through integrating communications, marketing, alumni affairs, development and other campus portfolios such as government relations and student recruitment. A group exercise will allow participants to apply strategies and tactics to case study scenarios whilst exploring both risks and benefits.
David Jeu, Director - Global Development, The University of Alberta (Canada)

10.45-11.45 "Meet your Neighbours" Workshop
