Meet the current CASE-HEFCE Graduate Trainees

Rose Bailey
Kings College  

 Rose Bailey, Kings College,  is a graduate of the University of Exeter, where she studied Spanish. During her time at Exeter, she gained considerable experience in fundraising, communication and event co-ordination, through door-to-door fundraising work and through the university Raising and Giving society. In her second year Bailey was nominated ‘International Events Co-ordinator' which enabled her to plan, lead and co-ordinate a trip to Everest Base Camp with 10 fellow students, raising over £10,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support. Bailey is now looking forwards to pursuing a career in higher education fundraising as she believes it's increasingly more important in the development and progress of today's society to encourage alumni to give back to their institutions.

Jamie Swift-Drake

Jamie Swift-Drake
London Business School

Jamie Swift-Drake, London Business School, is a graduate of the University of Leeds, having studied BA English Language and Literature and MA English Literature. His burgeoning involvement in Higher Educational Fundraising was sparked and inculcated by his time with the Footsteps Fund - the University's way of reaching out to and raising funds from its alumni base. He also spent some time shadowing sections of the University's Development department in preparation for the position of CASE Graduate Trainee. Now placed at London Business School, he is looking forward to applying and developing what he has already learnt as well as gaining new skills and experiences.

Rosie Simm

Rosie Simm
University College London

Rosie Simm, University College London, is a graduate of the University of Edinburgh where she studied Politics and Social Policy. While at Edinburgh she was a project leader for the charity READ International where she led a group volunteers to achieve ambitious fundraising targets. In addition she planned and executed her departments first Peer Assisted Learning Programme, which successfully brought together students across year groups. Through several internships she has developed strong skills in marketing and planning large-scale events. Simm is passionate to continue her involvement in higher education, and, through the CASE
graduate scheme to learn the necessary skills to campaign for expansion and investment in a sector that is crucial for both personal enrichment and socio-economic well-being.

Rachael Third

Rachel Third
Univesity of Nottingham

Rachel Third, Univesity of Nottingham, is a recent graduate of the University of Oxford, reading Philosophy and Theology. Whilst at Oxford she was a student caller working to contact alumni to raise support for Regent's Park College. It was through this experience of working with the Development Office on the Oxford Thinking campaign that she gained an interest in Higher Education Fundraising, and is now delighted to be based at Nottingham University to pursue a career in university advancement. During her time at Oxford Third led fundraising activities for charity projects in South America and India, and served on her college's student executive committee.

Laura Benson

Laura Benson
University of Loughborough

Laura Benson, University of Loughborough, is a graduate from Loughborough University where she studied Drama. Whilst at Loughborough University Benson was part of her halls of residence Committee in which she got heavily involved in the fundraising activities, taking part in many rag raids across the country. At the Breakthrough for Breast Cancer rag raid in London Benson personally raised over £500 and it is this event that first sparked her interest in the fundraising profession. Whilst at university she was also the Media and Marketing Rep on her halls of residence Ball Committee in which she gained experience in both event coordination and marketing. Benson is now working at Loughborough University as the new CASE trainee and she believes that the CASE graduate scheme will be an excellent opportunity to learn more about development within Higher Education, hopefully leading to a successful career in this sector.

Hannah Jordan

Hannah Jordan
University of Birmingham

Hannah Jordan, University of Birmingham, is a graduate from the University of Leeds where she studied Politics. Whilst there she worked as a student caller for the Footsteps Fund, the universities Annual Fund, which initiated her interest in a career in the higher education sector. Jordan also worked as part of the Assess and Engagement team at the university; working on a summer school for underprivileged young people which was funded by Alumni support. Jordan is now working at the University of Birmingham where she believes the CASE Graduate Scheme will give her a broad foundation on which to pursue her HE career.

 Rachael Gill

Rachael Gill, University of Warwick

 Rachael Gill, University of Warwick, is a graduate of the University of Exeter where she studied Politics. Gill has two years' experience of working in the Development and Alumni Relations department at Warwick, and is thrilled to have the opportunity to expand her knowledge and skills and to develop a career in University fundraising. She has been fortunate to learn the myriad ways that philanthropic donations support the work of universities, as well as the challenges that they face in creating an atmosphere of giving amongst their alumni and key stakeholders. Gill is looking forward to the opportunity to get involved in all aspects of the department and to contribute to the valuable work that is done here.
