Crystal AppleAdrian Beney, Consultant, Iain More Associates

Beney, AdrianMuch of Adrian’s development career was spent at the University of Durham where he was Deputy Director and then Interim Director. During this time he devised the University’s Alumni Relations and Annual Giving programmes, began major gifts work and established one of the most admired alumni databases in the UK. He also created one of the first UK alumni web sites in early 1995 and one of the first and most used Alumni virtual communities in the UK.

Since joining Iain More Associates in 2005, Adrian has worked with a varied group of clients including the Universities of De Montfort, Edinburgh, Liverpool, Queen's Belfast and York; St John’s College Cambridge and St John’s in Durham; RADA; the Durrell Wildlife Conservation Trust; and the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew.

Adrian has been heavily involved with CASE Europe and was the recipient of the first prestigious CASE Crystal Apple to be awarded outside of North America – an award that recognises excellence in teaching at CASE events. He also served on CASE’s Philanthropy Commission from 1998 to 2001 and was a contributor to the Department of Education and Science sponsored Thomas Report on “Increasing Voluntary Giving to Higher Education.

Bob is an internationally-recognised expert in annual giving, spending more than 17 years in fundraising and consulting for the past ten, working with more than 100 institutions around the world. He is author of the CASE books Innovations in Annual Giving and More Innovations in Annual Giving.

Rachel Brown, Development Manager, Annual Fund, University of Edinburgh

Rachel's first foray into fundraising was as a student caller at Durham University. She subsequently ran the telephone campaigns at Durham before going on to head up the broader programme as Annual Fund Manager.

She moved to The University of Edinburgh in July 2009 to take on the challenge of reviving their Annual Fund. Since then she has overhauled Edinburgh's phone campaigns, introduced a programme of direct mail and established a leadership giving society.

Heather Campbell, Head of Annual Fund, London School of Economics and Political Science

Heather joined the London School of Economics and Political Science in September 2010 as the Head of Annual Fund. Prior to joining the LSE, Heather was a member of the Annual Fund team at Imperial College London, where she was responsible for the telephone and direct mail campaigns and successfully introduced caller software automation, overseas calling and a leadership giving donor club. Heather first fundraised as a student caller for her own university's Annual Fund.

John Easom, Alumni Officer, Keele University

After many years in the Civil Service, Join joined Keele University in 2005 with overall responsibility for the University's Alumni Relations strategy. Joined has a first degree at Nottingham University and an MA from Keele. His aim is to improve the relationships and interaction between Keele and the best alumni in the world.

Faye Jennings, Director of Annual Giving, The University of Warwick

Faye is Director of Annual Giving at the University of Warwick and has worked in development for eight years. Faye managed Warwick's telephone campaigns for five years during which time she implemented an innovative recruitment and training programme and increased annual telephone fundraising income to over £200,000. In addition to her annual giving responsibilities, Faye also manages Warwick's legacy programme.

Vicky Hayhurst, Head of Development & Alumni at Leeds Metropolitan University

Vicky is responsible for all aspects of the University's fundraising, development and alumni relations functions. She was previously the Alumni Relations and Annual Fund Manager at the University of Salford. Vicky has experience of working with telephone fundraising agencies at both institutions and has been supported by agencies in a variety of different ways.

Louise Mackay, Development Officer (Parents and Community), University of Exeter

Louise joined the Development and Alumni Office in 2008 as an Annual Fund Officer with overall responsibility for direct mail and Stewardship. After graduating from Plymouth University in 2006 she worked as a fundraising assistant for Cancer Research UK and an Events Fundraiser for the West of England School and College. Her role at Exeter now focuses on Parents and Community Fundraising.

Matt Mangan, Director of Fundraising, University of Birmingham

Matt recently became Director of Fundraising and is charged with leading an expanding fundraising division to double philanthropic income over the next five years. Matt started as Development Executive at the University of Birmingham in 2005. He has secured leading gifts from individuals and companies towards the University's Capital Campaign. Prior to this Matt worked for seven years in sales and marketing for major blue-chip companies including Coca-Cola Enterprises in the UK.

Becki McKinlay, Annual Giving Manager, University of Reading

Becki joined the University of Reading in 2007 with the challenge of developing the already successful Annual Fund. In 2009 Becki broadened the Annual Giving programme with a target of raising £500,000 per annum from Annual Giving activities. Alongside the implementation of the Annual Giving strategy, Becki provides the bridge between Annual Giving and Major Gifts, with a portfolio of prospective donors from whom she has solicited four and five-figure gifts towards the Fund and other development projects.

Rachel Mighall, Information Strategy and Analysis Manager, Oxford Brookes University

Rachel has worked in Development since 2001 starting out at St Catherine's College, Oxford where she helped to manage what was then one of the most successful Oxbridge College telethons to date. She has been at Oxford Brookes University since 2008 where she has been introducing and implementing the initiative to use data analysis and donor profiling to improve performance and to drive fundraising strategy.

Rachel Newbury, Head of Annual Giving, Lancaster University

Rachel oversees all Annual Fund activities and deputises for the Director of Alumni and Development. With a background in secondary teaching and publishing prior to entering the world of educational fundraising, she has enjoyed being part of the establishment and growth of Lancaster's development office from its inception in 2001.

Jason Potts, Director, Think Consulting Solutions

Jason began working in digital media 14 years ago at a time when the market was just beginning to truly develop in Europe. He has worked with many leading International not for profits, including; Amnesty, Greenpeace, The Red Cross, UNICEF and UNHCR. He has also experience of working in North America, Africa, Australasia and Latin America. He also has experience working in the Education sector with clients such as UCL, Cambridge, Leeds and SOAS.

He is widely recognised within the global not for profit community as an innovative and pioneering contributor to the development of the digital market place. He speaks regularly at conferences around the world about the future of digital media for the sector. He has featured in several books, Wiley's, Nonprofit Internet Strategies and New Trends in Direct Response Fundraising, Jim Greenfield's anthology of fundraising best practice, for the North American market and The Worldwide Fundraiser's Handbook, published by The Directory of Social Change.

Adrian Salmon, Annual Fund Manager, University of Leeds

Adrian joined the University of Leeds as Annual Fund Manager in 2008, having previously been Head of Client Services for The Phone Room Ltd in Oxford. Over the last ten years he has devised and executed telephone campaigns for over 100 UK charities, which have raised more than £20m.

Ruth Stanley, Head of Annual Giving, The University of Sheffield

Ruth has over eight years experience in the field of Annual Giving, firstly at LSE, and since 2003 at the University of Sheffield, where she set up the Annual Fund from scratch. Sheffield's Annual Fund now has over 1,500 donors per year, bringing in over £250,000 in annual unrestricted income.

 

 This faculty member has earned a CASE Crystal Apple award in recognition of excellence in teaching at 10 or more conferences, workshops, and institutes.
