"Unfortunately, the topic of women and philanthropy is too often seen as something only our female colleagues should find interesting. Yet women control a majority of the assets, dominate most white-collar professions and now receive 60% of college diplomas. We must study women's attitudes towards philanthropy because our fundraising agendas are increasingly shaped by women donors. Anyone who clings to the old boys theory of fundraising should retire now because you are living in the past."

Bruce W. Flessner, Principal, Bentz Whaley Flessner

This seminar is Part I of a two-part series in partnership with the Women's Philanthropy Institute at the Center on Philanthropy at Indiana University

This seminar will examine the Women's Philanthropy Institute's research findings on the topic of how married couples behave when it comes to charitable giving and why it matters to educational fundraisers.

Research shows that men and women give differently when single, so what happens in marriage? How do couples' decision-making styles affect how much is given and where the money goes? To what extent do trends in college attendance-an area in which women are outpacing men-and labor market earnings-an area in which men outpace women-influence who decides about charitable giving in households?
