More community colleges are finding that investing in alumni relations is literally paying off. At the Community College of Baltimore County they have been systematic about their communications, mailings and data cleanup, with big results: an 89 percent increase in alumni giving in one year. With a steadfast focus on the cultivation and solicitation of individuals including alumni and friends of CCBC, their office has discovered guaranteed activities that will turn alumni into donors.

Ann-Marie Thornton has made a big impact at the Community College of Baltimore County since joining the advancement staff there less than two years ago, with donations from alumni increasing 89 percent in one year. At CCBC she is responsible for their alumni relations program, major gifts initiatives and annual giving program.

Prior to joining CCBC, Thornton, who has over 14 years of fundraising experience, was the program director of philanthropy for the Bon Secours of Maryland Foundation.
