Nurturing, leveraging and sustaining critical relationships with volunteers is both a science and an art. Hear from two seasoned professionals about the intrinsic value volunteers bring to our institutions, and explore ways we can both measure their gifts of time and service and reward them for it.

Curtis J. CrespinoCurtis J. Crespino

University of Missouri-Kansas City

Starting his 23rd year at the University of Missouri-Kansas City, Curt Crespino has served the Advancement Division in a variety of roles over the years. In each of his positions, from director of alumni and development for the School of Pharmacy to vice chancellor for university advancement, he has provided strategic perspective and cultivated key relationships with the alumni and friends that have enriched UMKC.

He currently serves on the CASE International Board of Trustees. Prior to accepting the current appointment to the International Board as secretary and member of the Executive Committee, he served on the Alumni Relations Commission, as chair of the District VI regional board and chair of the organization's North American Council of District Chairs.

Crespino has held previous advancement positions at the Metropolitan State College of Denver and Pittsburg State University. Locally, he is a past officer of the Council on Philanthropy (currently known as NonProfit Connect) as well as a past chair of the Theatre Advisory Council for the Johnson County Park District.

He holds both a bachelor's and master's degree from Pittsburg State University. In 2008, he was recognized by his alma mater with the Kenneth K. Bateman Outstanding Alumni Award.

Sherri Schmidt has more than 22 years of advancement experience. Prior to joining North Dakota State University Alumni Association, she was the executive director of Phi Mu Sorority in Atlanta, Ga .

Schmidt has been involved with CASE since 1990. She has served as chair of the CASE District VI board of directors, chair of the CASE District VI conference and member of the CASE commission on alumni relations. She has been a frequent CASE speaker, recipient of the prestigious CASE Crystal Apple Award for Teaching Excellence and was a faculty member at the CASE Summer Institute in Alumni Relations and Institute for Senior Alumni Relations Professionals.
