Visual Identity Programs
2010 Circle of Excellence Awards Program
Judges Report
An interesting thing about this category-there weren't many institutions who had BOTH a distinctive logo/wordmark and a user-friendly graphic standards or style manual. The Gold and Silver award winners managed to show both.
Gold Award: School of Information, University of Texas, Austin.
This innovative new school was given a warm graphic that perfectly melded a traditional symbol- the column- in a fresh new way. It is easy to see how the design team garnered awareness for an unknown school within the UT system and gave it its own distinctive brand. Nice use of both the printed page and architecture. This bright, fresh and lively mark looked well-thought and appealing, to resonate with even the quirkiest (their own word!) grad student.
Silver Award: Brock University
Brock's use of classic typography and branded thumbprint mark set it apart from other schools and colleges. Their standards guide is user-friendly and thorough- almost TOO much information! Obviously a great deal of thought has gone into their identity system, which offers valuable design advice for everyone, related to Brock or not. The application of their timeless look is very inviting and bold, especially the vehicular graphics.
